About This Event

A defining high school film before the genre even had a name, Rebel Without a Cause captures the ache, anger and glamour of teenage alienation in 1950s America.
James Dean became an instant icon as Jim Stark, the sensitive, leather-jacketed outsider who helped create the blueprint for screen heartthrobs to follow and the intense bond between Jim and Plato made the film a touchstone for gay readings across generations.

Released in 1955, the film arrived at a moment of post-war moral panic and growing anxiety about youth culture, Rebel Without a Cause still remains one of cinema’s great portraits of adolescence.
